Going green with eCommerce

As I have previously discussed, Eirô Consulting is often asked to assist clients in the development of their business cases to support eCommerce initiatives. These business cases typically focus on improved process efficiency and business effectiveness, as well as the reduction of business risk. A “new” benefit is now being acknowledged, albeit sometimes somewhat cynically: the Green Benefits of eCommerce. … Continue Reading »

PIDX Standards Penetration and Adoption

A key objective of PIDX in 2008, is deeper penetration of the PIDX standards in North America and broader adoption of the PIDX standards World Wide.

Coincidentally, a presentation given by the latest organization to join the PIDX community, Amalto Technologies, focused on extending the reach of the PIDX standards to the broader supplier community. … Continue Reading »

PIDX at 20; Positioned for Global Expansion

Last week I attended the API PIDX Spring 2008 Conference in Houston, Texas. The conference was billed as, “The 20th Anniversary Conference” and included the presentation of service awards to many of the long-term contributors to the development of the PIDX standards.

So how is the organization that has been, “Putting the e in ebusiness for two decades”, doing? Surprisingly well. … Continue Reading »

Don’t Discount Discounts

An important part of our role at Eirô Consulting is to assist clients in the development of business cases to support their eCommerce initiatives. While the specific details and relative magnitudes of the various elements of any business case vary from one initiative to another, they almost always include elements relating to both efficiency (“Doing things right”) and effectiveness (“Doing the right thing”). An often-undervalued element from the “effectiveness column” is the inclusion of the value of early-pay supplier discounts. … Continue Reading »

When P2P meets AP

Eirô Consulting has been involved with, and has observed, many Purchase-to-Pay (P2P) projects. An important and often overlooked consideration in a number of these projects is the participation and appreciation of the needs of the Accounts Payable (AP) stakeholders. Why is this and why is it an issue? … Continue Reading »

PIDX Standards… we care!

The is a follow up to my recent post covering the PIDX Europe Conference.  It appears that the title was a little too provocative, particularly if one didn’t make it through to the conclusion.

The conclusion of the post was… standards are important and we should all care and bother about their direction and their adoption.

The simple fact of the matter is that the PIDX standards have been the basis for literally tens of billions of dollars of real world transactions in the upstream oil & gas industry, much like CIDX has done for downstream and chemicals.  We do not see anywhere near these spend levels being achieved through non-standards-based approaches.

As a firm, Eiro Consulting is committed to the development and adoption of PIDX, both through our work and through the volunteer efforts of our Principals.

So, to answer the question posed in the post, we care about standards and we care about PIDX in particular.

PIDX Europe Fall Conference – Standards, who cares and why bother?

Last week I flew to London to attend the PIDX Europe Fall Conference, which was held in the very elegant Royal Automobile Club on Pall Mall.  While the conference did not have a formal thematic title, after listening to the day’s proceedings, it seemed to me that an appropriate theme may have been, “Standards, who cares and why bother?” … Continue Reading »

Avoiding Derailment

I mentioned back in April, the need for the industry to be continually working to eliminate inconsistencies and ambiguities that are identified when deploying the PIDX standards. Without constant feedback to the PIDX Workgroups and Community of practical implementation experience, the Standards diverge, splinter, and increase the cost of eBusiness implementations across the industry.  … Continue Reading »

Managing eCommerce Projects for Success – Start by asking the right questions…

At the recent, inaugural PIDX conference in Dubai, I presented on the topic of “Managing eCommerce Projects for Success”. The choice of topic was very deliberate, as we knew there would be a number of audience members whose companies were in the inception stage of eCommerce projects. The inception stage is critical since it sets the direction of the project, and to a large extent can pre-determine how successful (or otherwise!) the project will be. … Continue Reading »

Don’t let inconsistent interpretation derail the PIDX Standard

I recently returned from the API PIDX Conference in Houston pondering the similarities between the PIDX XML Standards and the US Railroad Track Gauge prior to 1862.  Pass him his anorak I hear you say! … Continue Reading »
